The founder and chairman of Bharti Enterprises, Sunil Bharti Mittal, was honoured with the Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) medal, at the British High Commissioner’s residence in New Delhi. Close friends and family were present at the special investiture ceremony that took place recently.
An announcement that His Majesty The King had “graciously conferred the Honorary Knighthood” was made last year in recognition of Mittal’s contributions to India-UK business ties.
On accepting the award, Mittal said that it was an honor to receive the KBE from King Charles III. “As India and the United Kingdom continue to scale new heights in our bilateral relations, I consider this recognition both a privilege and a responsibility. I am committed to working closely with stakeholders in both nations to further strengthen India-UK business ties,” he said.
Lindy Cameron, British High Commissioner to India, praised Mittal for his leadership that had left a lasting impact on the UK-India partnership. She recalled how Mittal led a senior Indian business delegation to the UK recently, meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the Foreign Secretary, the chancellor, and other Cabinet Ministers to explore opportunities for accelerating economic growth between both nations. “I was delighted to present Sunil Bharti Mittal the KBE medal on behalf of the King. Mittal is a great friend of the UK, with notable investments in BT, Gleneagles, Norlake Hospitality, and OneWeb,” she said.
Mittal, who was ranked seventh on Forbes list of India’s 100 richest tycoons last year, said, “On this very special occasion, I offer my gratitude to all who have been part of this journey.” – editor@nrifocus.com
