The Indian embassy in Doha has confirmed the death of 12 Indian nationals in an explosion at a factory in the Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar.
The largest gas facility, which is the city’s main liquified natural gas (LNG) processing site, underwent a technical accident in which the workers were killed and several others injured.
The embassy has extended ‘deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the departed souls’.
The injured were rushed for medical treatment and are in stable condition, Qatari authorities said.
The Indian embassy is in touch with Qatari authorities, extending possible help to those impacted by the accident, including the families of the deceased.
Efforts are on to send the mortal remains of the deceased to India at the earliest.
The Ras Laffan Port suffered extensive damage during the US-Israel war with Iran. So operations at the gas facility were stopped in March.
This major blast occurred when the workers were engaged in restarting the operations. – editor@nrifocus.com
