WhatsApp boss Will Cathcart has announced that it is time for him to step down from his role.

In posts on social media, Cathcart said that the platform was in “the strongest position it’s ever been” it also “felt like the right moment to step back”.

However, he will play a part in Meta’s leadership along with Kunal Shah, who takes over as head of WhatsApp. Shah is founder of Indian fintech start-up Cred.

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder and Meta chief executive, commented on Shah saying that he had created ‘one of India’s most important technology companies’ with Cred.

The fintech founder ‘brings the kind of builder mentality and global perspective that will serve him well in running the world’s biggest messaging app’, he said.

“I look forward to working with Kunal to continue to make WhatsApp the best service for billions of people and millions of businesses,” Zuckerberg added. – editor@nrifocus.com
