A research data recently released by the Reserve Bank of India reveals that inflows into NRI bank accounts have moderated to $751 million in April 2025 from $1.07 billion in April 2024. The rise of inflows to NRI deposit schemes in FY25 was just $16.16 billion, up from $14.70 billion in FY24.
NRI deposit schemes comprise foreign currency non-resident (FCNR) deposits, non-resident external (NRE) deposits and non-resident ordinary (NRO) deposits.
Of these, total outstanding NRI deposits alone reached $165.43 billion at the end of April 2025, up from $153 billion during the same period last year. Outstanding deposits in March 2025 stood at $164.67 billion.
Inflows into FCNR (B) accounts in April 2025 recorded $272 million; it was $483 million in April last year. At the end of April 2025, the outstanding amount stood at $33.08 billion.
In April this year, NRE deposits recorded an inflow of $376 million; it was $564 million last year. Outstanding NRE deposits recorded $101.11 billion in March 2025.
On the other hand, in April 2025, NRO deposits saw inflows of $103 million; it was $31 million during the same time last year. In in March 2025, the total outstanding amount in NRO deposits stood at $31.23 billion. – editor@nrifocus.com
