Abdul Ghafoori, a 32-year-old Toronto resident, faces legal proceedings in Canada over the first-degree murder charge of killing his Indian partner in what police describes as an ‘act of intimate partner violence’. His partner, Himanshi Khurana, 30, was found dead at her residence in Toronto.

The crime took place seven months ago and Ghafoori was on the run. Officers from Toronto Police’s fugitive squad and homicide unit worked in tandem with national and international police services to nab Ghafoori. He was arrested at a Toronto airport after an extensive search that lasted these seven months.

The death of Khurana was declared a homicide. Khurana and Ghafoori were in an ‘intimate partner relationship’, according to a statement by the police.

Investigators were on the lookout for Ghafoori after obtaining a Canada-wide warrant. Since Ghafoori was charged with first-degree murder, police released his photograph and appealed to the public for information about him.

The Consulate General of India in Toronto has expressed shock and grief over Khurana’s death, saying they were providing assistance to her family.

“We are deeply saddened and shocked by the murder of Himanshi Khurana, a young Indian national, in Toronto. We extend our deepest condolences to her bereaved family during this moment of profound grief,” the consulate said in a post on X. – editor@nrifocus.com
