A three-day festival of arts and culture titled ‘India by the Creek’ is to be inaugurated in Dubai on March 8. The festival will be held at scenic waterfront promenade Al Seef, where artistes from both India and Dubai will perform till the concluding day on March 10.
A host of activities that include poetry and music sessions, interactive workshops and literary discourse have been planned for the cultural gala, which is open to all. Admission is free to this first edition though the website has a registration process to be completed by those who wish to attend.
The festival would be a celebration of sorts of the rich cultural and centuries-old historic ties between India and the UAE. Poet Arundhathi Subramaniam, singer-songwriters Alif and Salman Elahi, multi-lingual artiste Harpreet, author Purushottam Agarwal, former diplomat-cum-author Navdeep Suri, versatile musicians Mohammed Dohai and Nathoo Lal Solanki, niche singers such as Malini Awasthi, Sonam Kalra, Varijashree Venugopal and Aman Mahajan are among the performers at the festival. ‘Evening music’ – from 9 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. – spanning the three days will turn the spotlight on folk fusion band Indian Ocean, Kutle Khan Project, and Lakhwinder Wadali’s best of Hindustani qawwals.
