Over Rs1.78 crore was seized by the Hyderabad Police from two brothers from Dubai last weekend. The two were apprehended at Asif Nagar in Hyderabad, late on October 27. The brothers told the police that they were carrying the money to purchase property in the city.

B. Bala Swamy, DCP South West said while police patrols were checking vehicles,  a team intercepted two cars and found Rs1,78,30,000 cash. The brothers, identified as Mohammed Shahnawazuddin and Mohammed Shabuddin – who had come to the city from Dubai two weeks ago – told the police that they were carrying the cash to buy property.

Since they were not in possession of any relevant documents, the cash was handed over to the Income Tax department.

Investigations prima facie have not revealed any links with the seized cash and the upcoming Telangana assembly elections.
