A brutal incident pointing to racism has shaken the Indian community in Adelaide and around the world.
Charanpreet Singh, 23, was attacked by a group of violent men near Kintore Avenue, leaving him wounded and bleeding with multiple facial fractures. He was hospitalised with serious injuries and is on the path to recovery now.
The racially motivated assault left Singh unconscious by the roadside. South Australia Police have identified and arrested one man for causing physical and emotional harm. Investigations are on, and the police are on the lookout for the remaining assailants, who are still absconding. Police are reviewing CCTV footage to zero in on the offenders.
The incident has raised concerns over the safety of immigrants in Australia. International students are also extremely vulnerable in a place where racism rules.
“I tried to fight back, but they beat me until I was unconscious,” said Singh, recalling the night of horror from his hospital bed.
People have voiced their protest against the incident on social media, calling for immediate action. – editor@nrifocus.com
