NRI killed, 9 injured as gas cylinder explodes in an apartment in Dubai’s Karama

One person was killed and nine others injured after a gas cylinder exploded in an apartment in Karama, Dubai. The deceased, Yakub Abdullah, is a native of Malappuram district, Kerala. All affected by the explosion are from Kerala and are being treated at different hospitals in Bur Dubai. The condition of three Kannur natives – Nithin Das, Shanil and Nahil – is reportedly critical.

Abdullah, a worker at Al Madeena fruit shop in Karama, was staying with the rest of them at Bin Haider building near Day To Day Shopping Centre in Karama.

At the time of the accident, at 12.30 am, on October 19, 17 people were in the building. Though the residents tried to escape, the fire spread quickly leaving several of them injured.

According to reports, five of the injured were admitted to Rashid Hospital and four to NMC Hospital. Police have started a probe into the accident, sources said.
