An NRI working in Oman has been booked by the Karnataka police for harassing his wife of 12 years by issuing a triple talaq against her. Investigations reveal that his wife, who stayed with his family in India, was constantly humiliated and verbally abused by them. She filed a complaint at Brahmavar police station in Udupi, where a case was registered against them.
The couple has a 10-year-old son, who lives with the woman. The NRI, Mohammad Haris, would argue with his wife over phone and is accused of making plans to marry someone else. His mother, brother and father would also harass her for petty issues, which led her to file a complaint with the police. Her husband had sent a registered letter declaring triple talaq to her house, which triggered her to take action.
The police have registered a case under Sections 85 and 3(5) of BNS and Section 4 of The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act. – editor@nrifocus.com
