Himalaya Wellness has begun construction of its state-of-the-art herbal pharmaceutical factory in Dubai. Himalaya Wellness is an Indian multinational personal care and pharmaceutical company based out of Bangalore.

The facility – to be based at Dubai Industrial City – will produce tablets, capsules, liquid orals, and ointments and will have an annual production capacity of 3 billion tablets, 15 million syrup bottles, and three million units of ointment. Phase one of the factory will have a built-up area of 225,000 square feet with plans to serve global volumes until 2030 and is expected to create job opportunities for 250 professionals.

The factory at Dubai’s manufacturing and logistics district, will see an expansion of the pharmaceutical company’s footprint within TECOM Group PJSC’s ecosystem in Dubai. The facility will be compliant with the European Medicine Agency’s GMP guidelines and World Health Organisation and United States Food and Drug Administration standards and will meet the local Ministry of Health and Prevention’s regulations.

Founded in India in 1930, the group also has a global research and development (R&D) centre spanning 92,000 square feet at Dubai Science Park. The new factory will work closely with the science park centre, allowing Himalaya’s talent at both locations to collaborate in product development, product stability and technology transfer.

The facility will also enable the company to establish Dubai as its sourcing hub for the region in addition to serving customers in the US, Europe, and select Asia Pacific countries. By introducing the latest technology for manufacturing, filling and packing products along with automated warehousing operations, the company will be able to provide products at competitive prices. Solar energy and water recycling will be enabled at the factory.

Ahmed Mohamed Al Naqbi, CEO of Emirates Development Bank; Mohammed Al Kamali, COO of Manufacturing & Export Development at Dubai Economic Development Corporation; Abdulla Belhoul, CEO of TECOM Group PJSC; Shailendra Malhotra, Global CEO at Himalaya Wellness Company; Saud Abu Alshawareb, Executive Vice-President of Industrial at TECOM Group PJSC; Ammar Al Malik, Executive Vice President of Commercial at TECOM Group; Jatin Brahmecha, Global CFO at Himalaya Wellness Company, and Lubna Manal and Sufiyan Manal from Himalaya’s leadership team attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
