The UAE Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) has ordered the attachment of Dubai-based businessman and Desi Bling star Satish Sanpal and his wife Tabinda’s assets and the freezing of their bank accounts. The move was made amid an investigation into a money laundering case allegedly involving them.
The scrutiny of Sanpal’s records has created a stir in the Indian business circles in Dubai and across the UAE.
The FIU has directed banks, financial institutions and virtual asset service providers in Dubai to block funds and digital assets linked to Sanpal and his wife. The UAE authorities suspect their involvement in terror financing also.
As part of the ongoing probe, the FIU is examining Sanpal’s transactions.
Indian-origin businessman Sanpal is popular for his appearance on Netflix’s reality show Desi Bling. Originally from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, Sanpal is chairman of Dubai-based NX Holding. He lives with his family in a residence in Dubai’s Burj Khalifa.
Though no court has announced charges against him in connection with the current investigation, FIU authorities had to ask banks, virtual asset service providers and financial institutions to block Sanpal’s digital assets and funds as long as the probe continues. – editor@nrifocus.com
