Actor Vijay Sethupathi becomes the first Indian to be named a presenter at the 54th International Emmy Awards, scheduled to take place on November 23, 2026, in New York City.

The event will honour the best in international television from 2025.

Tamil actor Sethupathi, who first drew attention with the 2012 horror thriller ‘Pizza’ and the comedy ‘Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom’, won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for ‘Super Deluxe’ in 2019.

One of the board members of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (IATAS), Kavita Gupta, was instrumental in enabling the process of booking Sethupathi for this role as presenter. With IATAS being the body that runs the International Emmys, Gupta is known for playing a key part in the selection of Indian comedian-actor Vir Das to host the ceremony at the 52nd edition two years ago.

Sethupathi’s presence at the Emmy Awards gala this year is indeed special as India has clinched two nominations in major categories. SonyLIV’s sports drama series ‘Real Kashmir Football Club’ has been nominated in the Best Drama Series category, and Netflix’s ‘Vir Das: Fool Volume’ in the Best Comedy Series category. – editor@nrifocus.com
