ICICI Bank has launched a facility for its Non-Resident Indian (NRI) customers that enables them to make UPI (Unified Payments Interface) transactions within India with their international mobile numbers.
NRIs in 10 countries, including the UAE, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the US, Canada, the UK, Singapore, Australia, and Hong Kong, can avail of the facility without switching to Indian numbers.
Earlier, NRI customers had to have an Indian mobile number to make payments via UPI. Now they can use their international mobile numbers, which are registered with their Non-Resident External (NRE) or Non-Resident Ordinary (NRO) bank accounts for UPI payments.
The facility is available on the bank’s mobile banking app making it easy for NRIs to conduct their financial activities with ease. They can scan any Indian QR code to make payments, besides sending money to an Indian bank account or to a UPI ID.
This service for NRIs is aimed to improve the digital payment experience and promote the use of UPI globally. – editor@nrifocus.com
