The Adani Group has hired two of the world’s largest litigation firms to tackle the civil and criminal proceedings brought forth against them by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Eastern District of New York.

The reputed US law firms are Kirkland & Ellis and Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan LLP.

Founder-chairman of Adani Group Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar Adani and senior executive Vneet S Jaain, among other officials, were indicted by US authorities last November for allegedly bribing Indian government officials to secure solar energy contracts from SECI for Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL). The bribe amount is believed to have exceeded $250 million.

AGEL said that all the three persons named in the case face no charges under the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) or bribery allegations.

The executives of Adani Group, as well as those from Quinn Emanuel and Kirkland & Ellis, have not commented on the current scenario. The case is now with a single judge in a US court.

Established in 1986, California-based Quinn Emanuel reportedly employs around 1,000 attorneys throughout 35 offices globally with an 88% success rate, securing over $70 billion in judgments and settlements.

Operating across 21 global locations, Chicago-based Kirkland & Ellis specializes in high-stakes commercial and intellectual property litigation. – editor@nrifocus.com
