Lucy White, a British woman took to social media to criticize three employees of Marks & Spencer, working at their shop in Heathrow Airport T3. The reason for her act has drawn global attention on X.
She had said: “Just landed in Heathrow Airport T3. Went into M&S. Three staff were speaking in another language.”
White added that the three employees had, by their own admission, been speaking in Hindi. She had immediately complained about them to their employer.
Her post on X sparked mixed reactions; some wondered what the whole issue was about people speaking in their native tongue, while others strongly criticized White as being ‘racist’.
White claimed that she went on to record their speech and hoped to report them to the company. “We must confront them every time,” she said.
A comment made in jest on X read: “Urgent, Marks & Spencer. You have multilingual staff working at the world’s busiest airport. Please advise.”
Still, another remark read: “It’s alienating to hear shop assistants speaking in a foreign language in a British store. I wouldn’t shop in stores that permit this.”
A majority of comments though mentioned White as being ‘racist and xenophobic’. – editor@nrifocus.com
