Police are on the look-out for UK-based NRI Charanjit Singh Grewal, 75, for instigating and executing the murder of Rupinder Kaur Pandher, a 71-year-old US citizen of Indian origin, in Ludhiana, about two months ago.

Grewal and Pandher had met on a matrimonial website and planned to get married when the former decided to walk away with just her money. Pandher had come to India from Seattle to solve a property dispute. Grewal put her on to Sukhjeet Singh, a typist in the Ludhiana court, to help her out.

Pandher, in the process, made Singh her power of attorney and was staying in his house in the hopes of marrying Grewal. She was also often transferring a huge sum of money to his account to get a closure to the property case.

Meanwhile, Grewal who didn’t want to marry Pandher promised Singh Rs.50 lakh and life abroad if he would kill Pandher and at the opportune time leave India.

Singh, when caught by the police, confessed to bludgeoning Pandher with a baseball bat and burning her body before dumping it in a drain in Ludhiana.

The matter came to light when Pandher’s sister couldn’t reach her on the mobile phone and alerted the US embassy in New Delhi.

A case has been booked against Grewal who is still absconding. Further investigations are on. – editor@nrifocus.com
