Malayalam thriller Aadujeevitham, set to release worldwide this Thursday, points to being a box-office hit with its soaring pre-booking figures. However, new developments show that some Gulf nations like Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait have delayed its release. Only the UAE’s censorship formalities have been fulfilled for its premiere this Thursday. Other Gulf countries are likely to clear the much-awaited movie for release only in April, according to reports.
Across the UAE, in close to 20 locations, pre-booking for Aadujeevitham started this week. The movie is reported to have collected Rs.1 crore already. City Centre Sharjah is geared up for 10 screenings a day, beginning 12 noon on March 28.
Directed by Blessy, the film, Aadujeevitham (meaning ‘The Goat Life’) is based on a 2008 Malayalam novel by Benyamin titled Goat Days. The bestseller was banned in Arabic even before its launch at the Riyadh Book Fair. Benyamin then hoped that the Gulf nations that banned the book would lift the restrictions as the book portrayed “only a picture of inhumane activities occurring in some parts of the world”. – editor@nrifocus.com
