Chandler Langevin, a Florida city council member, was censured in a 3-2 vote by the Palm Bay council for his controversial social media posts, calling for mass deportation of Indians in the United States.
The US politician, who was elected in 2024, had said in one of the posts: “There’s not a single Indian that cares about the United States. They are here to exploit us financially and enrich India and Indians. America for Americans.”
As a Palm Bay council member, Langevin defended his offensive comments, saying, “I’m not the first Republican to make a mean tweet… Indians come to the US to drain our pockets and then return to India, or worse to stay.”
In response to the incident, the council’s Mayor Rob Medina said, “We’re all overwhelmed by everything… This nation was founded on immigrants… We are all part of the very fabric of the flag, our banner, the United States of America.”
In a letter to Governor Ron DeSantis, Palm Bay has demanded the removal of Langevin from office.
Following this, Langevin reverted to justifying that his remarks were aimed at temporary visa holders, and not the entire Indian community in the US. – editor@nrifocus.com
