The region head of Tech Mahindra for Qatar and Kuwait, Amit Gupta, was detained by Qatari authorities six months ago and has since been under confinement. The reason for his arrest is stated as ‘unknown’.

His parents from Vadodara are now in Doha. They have been granted permission to meet their son once a week for half-an-hour. These meetings have been facilitated by the Embassy of India.

Tech Mahindra, the company Gupta works with, has extended support to him and his family by arranging flight tickets to Doha, and their stay at a hotel. “We have requested them to allow us to stay in my son’s apartment,” said Gupta’s father. During those meetings, they say Gupta ‘cries like a child’, pleading for help. His parents have been assuring him that they are doing their best to get him out.

Gupta, 45, has been imprisoned in a room without a window, with no human interaction. His father said that when they met with the Ambassador of India to the State of Qatar and the Embassy of India, they were told that the Indian authorities are doing their best for Gupta’s release, while Qatari authorities have been saying that they are ‘preparing a report’. “We can only implore that our numerous letters to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar’s office should be heard for the safety of our son,” his father said.
