NRI entrepreneur’s Gulf Medical University in the UAE announces annual grant of Dh3 million

The Gulf Medical University (GMU) of the United Arab Emirates has announced an annual grant of Dh3 million under the Thumbay International Research banner. Started in 1998 in Ajman – the fifth largest city in the UAE after Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Al Ain – GMU is a leading medical university with its own network of hospitals, clinics and institutes in the Gulf region.

The purpose of the Thumbay International Research Grant is to support national and global collaboration and research. Backed by the Thumbay Research Institute of Precision Medicine (TRIPM), Thumbay Institute of Population Health and The Thumbay Institute of Health Workforce Development, GMU has been moving forward in the field of advanced medicine that positively impacts the country’s health sector.

Dr. Thumbay Moideen, founder-president of Thumbay Group, said that enhancing and improving the country’s health outcomes were foundational goals of GMU. “We believe in the impact of research on advancing knowledge and practice,” he said.

Applications for the grant will be received online (www.gmu.ac.ae/grant) from October 1 to December 31, 2024. The research proposals will be evaluated by experts after which candidates will be selected by an International Advisory Committee.

Professor Hossam Hamdy, Chancellor of Gulf Medical University, said, “Our strategic goal is to triple the amount of high-quality research by 2028. The grant will be awarded to researchers with a strong track record in the domains of precision medicine and drug discovery with a focus on cancer immunology, public health related to healthy aging, regenerative medicine and diabetes, AI, informatics, and digital transformation in healthcare management, and health economics, and innovation in health professions education.” – editor@nrifocus.com
