NRI deposit schemes witness $4 billion inflows in April-June FY25

The latest data released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) reveals that Overseas Indians deposited $4 billion in NRI (non-resident Indian) deposit schemes in April – June FY25. The amount is 79% more than the deposits in the schemes in the same period the previous year.

Foreign currency non-resident (FCNR) deposits, non-resident external (NRE) deposits, and non-resident ordinary (NRO) deposits are the preferred NRI deposit schemes.

As of June, the total outstanding NRI deposits was $155.71 billion. Inflows into the NRI schemes in April – June FY25, stood at $3.95 billion. It was $2.21 billion in the same period last year.
FCNR (B) deposits recorded the maximum flow with $1.68 billion. Last year, during the same period – April – June FY25 – it was $1.12 billion.

NRE deposits saw an inflow of $1.53 billion compared to $489 million last year.

NRO deposits saw a notable inflow of $743 million against $598 million a year ago. – editor@nrifocus.com
