A woman from Kasaragod, known for making people believe she had ‘special powers’, has been arrested for murder. Jinnumma, as she calls herself, is one among four persons found guilty in the murder case of M.C. Gafoor, a 53-year-old NRI businessman.
On April 14, 2023, Gafoor was found dead in his house at Poochakkad near Bekal Fort in Kasaragod. His body was exhumed on April 27, 2023, by the police on grounds of suspicion. The autopsy report revealed an injury at the back of his head.
A 11-member investigation team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Johnson K.J. was formed by District Police Chief Shilpa Dyavaiah to crack the case.
After Gafoor’s funeral, his family members came to understand that he had borrowed gold ornaments from each of them. There was no money crunch for him to have pledged the jewellery anywhere. The family, after confirming that the gold ornaments were indeed missing, registered a complaint with the police, who suspected 38-year-old Shameema K.H. alias Jinnumma, and four others with her, but could not arrest them for want of evidence.
Investigations revealed that Gafoor was asked by Jinnumma to bring gold ornaments from his family members so that she could use it to double her black magic skills. After getting the gold from him for a ritual, Jinnumma refused to return it. When Gafoor insisted that she give the gold back to him, Ubaise – one of the four – banged Gafoor’s head on the wall leading to his death hours later.
