Bungalow, located at 24 First Avenue in New York, is celebrity chef Vikas Khanna’s restaurant that is just nine months old yet turning out popular for many reasons.
Honoured with the Michelin 2024 Bib Gourmand Award and named among The New York Times’ list of ‘New York’s 14 Best New Restaurants of 2024’, Bungalow had a celebrated visitor recently who described his experience to the restaurant as a ‘pilgrimage’.
Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder, was taken on a culinary journey by Khanna, who cooked up a mega desi fusion meal that included Bengali kasundi tandoori avocado, Bihari sattu roti, Udupi-style annanas menaskai, Gujarati tindora pickle, Nagaland’s black rice pudding, Odisha’s guguni chaat, and Indore-inspired dahi kebab. The large spread also featured Dogra-style chicken anarkali, Jewish-Indian chicken chitranee, Sindhi achari aloo, and gulab jamun ice-cream paired with millet-chocolate cake and Ahmedabad ki saunf.
Khanna was also so impressed by the whole experience that he shared a picture of himself with Bezos, saying that the latter’s visit had filled his heart with pure joy and pride. – editor@nrifocus.com
