An Indian family, who went to Dubai for a wedding, are still in a state of amazement. Kamini Kannan was getting her collection of gold in order when she inadvertently left a bag containing four 22-carat coins and a 50-gram 24-carat gold bar on the dining table. Her son, Abhimanyu, assumed it was trash and threw the bag away with household garbage.
It was only the next day that Kannan realised the gold missing from the house. The valuables worth AED 50,000 (about Rs. 13 lakh) were gone.
A civic worker, who saw the pouch of gold while clearing trash, handed it over to the Dubai police. The police began investigating the source of garbage collection and tracked it down to Kannan’s place of accommodation. They followed up with a phone call and handed over the gold to the family within three days.
What could have been a costly mistake was averted, thanks to an efficient police force and a sincere, good-hearted civic worker. – Image by freepk – editor@nrifocus.com
