It was a significant moment for India when the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Saudi Arabia at a one-day international conference on ‘Emerging Trends in Regulation’, in New Delhi.

The MoU, which aimed to promote bilateral engagement between India and the Gulf nations in the field of telecommunications, is TRAI’s 20th such pact globally. The agreement this time brought together TRAI and Saudi Arabia’s Communications, Space & Technology Commission (CST) to jointly collaborate on future plans in the area of communications regulation.

Vandana Sethi, TRAI’s Advisor on international relations, said the MoU “formalises the long-standing bilateral relations” between the two countries.
Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary General of International Telecommunication Union (ITU), was present on the occasion.

In a message to the conference, India’s Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia said that the evolution of non-terrestrial networks will “unlock new vistas, expanding the horizons of communication technologies, ultimately serving our collective journey towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs).” – editor@nrifocus.com
