Kerala Formation Day this year, on November 1, will see the launch of a health and accident insurance scheme, exclusively for Malayali expatriates.
The comprehensive scheme named Norka Care, which is implemented through Norka Roots, will be effective for insurance coverage from November 1, 2025, to October 30, 2026. Enrollment for the scheme is open for a month from September 22.
Norka Care is expected to benefit around 20 lakh Malayalis living abroad, and even those Keralites residing in other Indian states with their families. The policy will cover the applicant, the spouse and two children under 25 years of age. The validity will be for a year, with an insurance coverage of up to Rs. 5 lakh.
Cashless treatment facilities will be available across the country in 1,200 hospitals under the project, covering hospital room rent, ICU charges, 30 days of pre-hospitalisation expenses, 60 days of post-hospitalisation expenses, medical management and daycare benefits.
In the event of death due to an accident, dependents will receive the full insured amount. Additionally, Rs. 25,000 will be provided for transporting the body from another state, and Rs. 50,000 as repatriation charges when bringing from another country.
Full coverage for total or permanent disability will be extended through the scheme; partial disability will be compensated for as per Norka Care schedule.
Those who can avail of the scheme include Keralites abroad with Norka expatriate ID cards and student ID cards, and those holding NRK ID cards in other states. – Image by freepik – editor@nrifocus.com
