Canadian politician Parm Bains, who accused India of ‘meddling in Canada’, has been identified as a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) collaborator, along with a few other senators and journalists. Canadian investigative journalist Sam Cooper and Independent MP Kevin Vuong have named Bains for collaborating with CCP-based influence networks. The other names spelled out by Cooper include Liberal-appointed Senator Yuen Pau Woo, Liberal MP Mary Ng, and Conservative-appointed Senator Victor Oh.

While addressing the press, Cooper and Vuong submitted an audio recording to prove their ‘allegation’ against Bains, in the presence of Dr. Charles Burton, Senior Fellow, Sinopsis and Michel Juneau-Katsuya, former CSIS Asia-Pacific Desk Chief who shared similar views.

Cooper said that journalists associated with a group called ‘Canada Committee 100 Society’ had supported Bains during the 2021 federal elections. The group was found to be closely connected with the Chinese United Front Overseas Leaders Group. Bains has, however, been refuting the charges saying he did not benefit from any Chinese influence in the 2021 elections.

Bains, a Liberal Party MP from Steveston—Richmond East constituency, received flak recently for accusing Indian diplomats of carrying out ‘foreign interference’ in Canada.

It is to be noted that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confessed to an official probe in April this year that China did attempt to meddle in the last two Canadian elections – in 2019 and 2021 – but “the results were not impacted” and that the elections were “free and fair”. Despite this, Trudeau and his party continue to face constant scrutiny over China’s alleged interference in both the elections. – editor@nrifocus.com
