Several churches in Dubai have announced a suspension of their Sunday gatherings and masses, effective April 3, which was Good Friday.
The decision was made by multiple parishes during Holy Week, keeping in mind the safety of churchgoers at a time of heightened political tensions.
Worshippers have been asked to stay away from church premises, and participate in online prayer meetings from home. Some churches, though, have decided to completely go off livestream also.
The sudden disruption of Good Friday and Easter services – with both the observances being important for Christians and Catholics all over the world – has shocked the community.
The suspension, imposed as a precautionary measure, would remain in place until further notice.
Despite the announcement coming at a sacred period for Christians, when thousands of them would gather to remember the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, church leaders have adviced members of their respective congregations to abide by the rules enforced by authorities for the common good.
