The much-awaited announcement from India’s Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has come, ending the suspense for teachers and their students in the Middle East who saw their final exam schedule go for a toss this year.

Students from the UAE, Iran, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia had their exams initially postponed, and then cancelled, on account of the political tensions resulting from the Iran-US-Israel conflict.

In a recent circular, CBSE has detailed an alternative assessment scheme for Class XII students in the Middle East.

The revised framework announced by the CBSE involves an alternative evaluation mechanism for students who had their exams cancelled. Final grades for cancelled exams will be determined for the students based on their project work, internal assessment marks and practical exams. For assessing theory marks, the students’ past performance in class tests and pre-board exams, besides other academic records, will be taken into account.

Results based on actual performance will be announced for those students who appeared for the exams.

Schools have been asked to submit scores from three internal assessments – the quarterly exam, the half-yearly exam and the pre-board exam. The highest score among these will be taken as the final result. This method will be followed for subjects such as Mathematics, English, History and Biology, which carry 70 or 80 marks for theory.

This evaluation process is expected to be fair and transparent. The CBSE said that schools and stakeholders will be provided with the full details of the assessment method. – editor@nrifocus.com
