Indian techie Mohammed Nizamuddin, 29, was shot dead by Santa Clara police in the US during an alleged scuffle with a roommate. Prior to the incident, he mentioned his termination from Google, where he had worked, and being a victim of racial hatred in a LinkedIn post that turned out to be his last.
His parents residing in Telangana have sought help from the Indian government to repatriate his body, also confirming the “wrongful termination” of his employment and the racial discrimination their son faced as a software engineer from India.
Nizamuddin worked for Google from 2021 to 2024. He had to quit because of the alleged racial harassment he faced. His roommates were American citizens and investigation reveals that Nizamuddin was asked to leave the place by his landlord.
“While working at Google via EPAM Systems-I have faced a lot of hostility, poor/ unacceptable environment, racial discrimination, and racial harassment. In addition to that the company committed a salary fraud. I was not paid fairly, not in accordance with DOL wage-levels. They altogether wrongfully terminated my employment. It did not end there. They continued their harassment, discrimination and intimidating behavior with the help of a racist detective and team. “Lately, the situation has deteriorated and become worse. My food was poisoned and now I am being evicted out of my current residence for fighting against injustice,” Nizamuddin had said in his last post on LinkedIn.
How the shooting happened and the reasons leading up to it are still unclear, though Santa Clara Police have said that when they broke into the room where Nizamuddin was, they saw him holding a knife threatening to attack his roommates.
Nizamuddin’s family has sought the intervention of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to order a thorough probe into the matter. – editor@nrifocus.com
