A woman from Kerala, Vipanchika, 32, and her one-year-old child were recently found dead under mysterious circumstances in Sharjah.

Following a complaint registered by Vipanchika’s mother Shylaja, the Kerala police began investigating the matter. Vipanchika’s husband Nitheesh, his father, and his sister were named as the accused in the case.

At this juncture, Shylaja approached the Indian Consulate in Sharjah requesting them to take action on her son-in-law and his family, who were allegedly responsible for her daughter’s death.

Even as Vipanchika’s husband Nitheesh had taken the child’s body to complete the final rites, Shylaja’s petition to the Indian Consulate made the authorities swing into action. They stopped the funeral proceedings and took the child away. An autopsy is yet to be conducted on Vipanchika and her daughter Vybhavi. Shylaja alleged that both her daughter and granddaughter were harmed by Nitheesh, who had sent a divorce notice to Vipanchika after which the deaths had occurred.

Sources say that Nitheesh has been summoned for interrogation by the Consulate officials.

A case has been registered by the Kerala police under Sections 85 (cruelty by a husband or his relatives towards a woman) and 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. – editor@nrifocus.com
