Fujairah, the only Emirati capital city on the UAE’s east coast, welcomed a major collaboration, aiming to boost tourism and promote economic ties with India.
The city’s International Airport, which commenced operations in 1987, officially launched IndiGo Airlines’ inaugural flights to Mumbai and Kannur recently. In addition to this, Fujairah International Airport introduced a free transportation service connecting all seven Emirates, for the convenience of travelers across the UAE.
At a formal welcome ceremony to celebrate the arrival of the inaugural aircraft, Consul-General of India to Dubai Satish Kumar Sivan, Chairman of the Fujairah Department of Civil Aviation Mohamed Abdulla Al Salami, General Manager of Fujairah International Airport Captain Esmaeil M. Al Boloushi, Deputy General Manager Ebraheim Alqallaf, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo Vinay Malhotra, and many senior officials from the government and private sector participated.
Al Salami said, “This event marks not just the launch of a new route, but the opening of strategic avenues of cooperation and collaboration between our two great nations.”
He asserted that the new routes would serve as a gateway for the Indian community, enriching tourism and business interactions. “IndiGo’s commitment to affordable and quality travel resonates deeply with the needs of our community,” he added.
Capt. Al Boloushi confirmed the commitment. “We are pleased to mark the launch of IndiGo’s first flights to Mumbai and Kannur — a significant step in enhancing direct connectivity between Fujairah and India,” he said, adding that travellers from Fujairah now have convenient access to major Asian destinations via IndiGo’s expanding network, including the Maldives, Bangkok, Jakarta, Singapore, Dhaka, Colombo, Seychelles and Kathmandu. – editor@nrifocus.com
