All you need to know about Usha Vance, the Indian- origin wife of US Vice President JD Vance

Usha Vance, the first Indian-origin US Second Lady, is the wife of Vice President JD Vance. Usha is an experienced litigator whose work involved complex civil litigation and appeals in a wide variety of industries. She also clerked for Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr. of the U.S. Supreme Court and Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

Prior to that, Usha clerked for Judge Amul Thapar, then of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky. Usha and JD met while attending Yale Law School.

Usha earned her bachelor’s degree from Yale University and a master’s degree from the University of Cambridge, where she was a Gates Cambridge Scholar. In her free time, she is a trustee of the Washington National Opera and has served on the board of the Gates Cambridge Alumni Association and as secretary of the board of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

Her family hails from Vadluru, a village in Andhra Pradesh. Usha’s parents Chilukuri Radhakrishna and Lakshmi, raised her in San Diego, where they moved in the 1980s. She is the mother of Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel.
