In an investigation that has shocked Kerala police, it is alleged that more than 1,400 Malayalis have swindled a total of about Rs700 crore from Gulf Bank Kuwait in separate incidents.

The fraud came to light when the Deputy General Manager of Gulf Bank visited Kerala and lodged a complaint with the police.

Preliminary investigation revealed that most of the accused are nurses who had fled from Kuwait after taking a huge loan from the bank. They availed of a small loan initially and promptly paid up to win the trust of the bank. Once a higher loan amount was sanctioned, they absconded leaving a trace of just their local addresses and salary certificates. That evidence was handed over to the Kerala police to register the cases.

Further to the complaint, 10 cases were registered in Ernakulam and Kottayam districts. – editor@nrifocus.com
