The government of the United Arab Emirates launched a two-month visa amnesty initiative beginning September 1, which allows illegal residents to legalize their residency status or leave the country without penalties. The Consulate General of India in Dubai has provided guidelines for Indian applicants to get support from facilitation centers.
Under the visa amnesty program, over 4,000 service seekers have been helped by the consulate. More than 600 passports and 800 emergency certificates have also been issued. The programme has assisted over 500 individuals, who wish to return to India, secure exit permits.
Overstaying Indians based in Dubai and the northern emirates can either regularize their residency status or get back to India without penalties.
