A man hailing from Edavanna, a town located in Eranad taluk of Malappuram district, Kerala, has been admitted to a hospital in Malappuram for treatment of suspected monkeypox (Mpox) infection. The 38-year-old man, who had returned from Dubai recently, developed rashes and fever. He is now under observation at the Medical College Hospital in Mancheri. His swab sample has been sent to Kozhikode Medical College for testing.
This is the first instance in Kerala where a person suspected to have contracted Mpox infection is hospitalized for further analysis and treatment.
Mpox has been declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by the World Health Organization. The infection is transmitted through contact before breaking out in rashes and fever. – editor@nrifocus.com
