The UAE conveyed its condolences and solidarity with India over the victims of landslides in the state of Kerala, which resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries.

In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) expressed its condolences and sympathy to the government and people of India, and to the families of the victims, as well as its wishes for a speedy recovery for all the injured.

Landslides in Kerala triggered by pounding monsoon rains struck tea plantations and killed at least 108 people on Tuesday, with at least 250 others rescued from mud and debris, officials said. The southern state has been battered by torrential downpours, with blocked roads into the disaster area in Wayanad district complicating relief efforts.

“This is one of the worst natural calamities that our state has seen.” Another 128 people had been hospitalised for treatment after their rescue, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said. – editor@nrifocus.com
